LIKE FATHER LIKE DAUGHTER?
Two very different artists: Gerard and Eleanor Stamp
Gerard Stamp’s passion for drawing and painting architecture was nurtured at Norwich School under the watchful eye and wonderful guidance of the late Alex Humphris, the school’s legendary art master. After a long career in advertising and design he concentrated on painting full time in 2002 and has since built an international reputation for his highly atmospheric, light-filled watercolours.
His daughter Eleanor shares the same love of figurative drawing, skilfully balancing detail with atmosphere, but there the comparison ends. Her work is born out of a deep love of animals, in particular it is Eleanor’s deep understanding and knowledge of horses which imbues her equestrian works with exceptional power.
